There is a Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Advanced transfer opportunity available in Residence Life - Facilities for current state employees. The work schedule for this full-time, year-round position is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The position description is available below.

This position performs a variety of semiskilled tasks, below the Journeyman level.  The position performs preventive maintenance and repairs of minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment and systems. This position works under the general direction of Skilled Trade employees and is directly supervised by the Assistant Director of Residence Life – Facilities.

50% A.Perform general preventative, corrective and reactive maintenance on building plumbing, electrical and HVAC fixtures and systems.
A1. Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services on various building electrical and plumbing systems as generated by the departmental Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
A2. Removal of stoppages of waste and drain pipes using plumbing machines.
A3. Replacement of faucet washers, stems, cartridges and handles.
A4. Installation of flush valve repair kits.
A5. Installation of shower heads and shower hoses.
A6. Repair and maintain water fountains.
A7. Testing of water softeners and adding of salt to brine tanks.
A9. Replace batteries in smoke detectors and other life safety devices.
A10.Replace light bulbs and fixture lens.
A11.Maintain and test building emergency generator systems.
A12.Maintain and test fire pumps and related equipment.
A13.Test and document GFIC outlets.
A14.Repair / Maintain custodial equipment.
A15.Assist electrician, plumber, HVAC Specialist FRW’s or Locksmith in construction and maintenance duties.
A16.Report deficiencies to appropriate crafts person.
35% B.Perform as first responder to customer calls in all Residence Life Buildings.
B1. Perform troubleshooting and repair functions as a result of various customer calls or alarms.
B2. Make emergency repairs as needed to resolve maintenance problems.
B3. Make regular building inspections to detect deficiencies.  
B4. Coordinate any needed assistance or follow up through the appropriate person.
10% C.Perform related duties as directed
C1. Maintain mechanical rooms and shop spaces in a clean and safe condition.
C2. Purchase necessary shop supplies, maintenance and repair parts. 
C3  Maintain parts in an orderly fashion and maintain required part inventories.
C4. Complete work orders promptly, including completion of required information and documenting close out information on CMMS.
C5. Assist and advise supervisor to establish and modify PM services frequencies and routines.

5% D.Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
•Knowledge of minor plumbing repairs and installations.
•Knowledge of minor electrical repairs and installations.
•Knowledge and skills of repairing and maintaining cooling, heating and venting equipment.
•Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and structures.
•Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, staff, students and supervisor.
•Ability to be on-call and perform emergency duties during assigned off hours.

Special Requirements: 
•A valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required.
•Ability to lift 50 lbs
•Ability to walk, bend and stand for long periods of time.
