There is a Custodian transfer opportunity available in University Center Facilities Management for current state employees. The work schedule for this full-time, year-round position is Thursday through Monday, 4:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This position is first available for mandatory transfer to current UW-Whitewater Custodian (pay schedule/range 03-08) employees. If this position is not filled by mandatory transfer on campus, mandatory transfer consideration will be given to other Custodian employees in the state system. If the position is not filled by mandatory transfer, permissive transfer candidates (employees with different titles in 03-08 pay range or in counterpart pay ranges) will be considered along with candidates from the state register.  (If you are unsure of your pay schedule/range, please contact Human Resources x1398 or x5745.)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for housekeeping duties in assigned areas of UW-Whitewater buildings and maintaining these areas in a safe and sanitary condition.  This position reports to Custodial Supervisor and works under the guidance of a Custodian Lead.  All duties are to be performed in accordance with organizational beliefs and values.  Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.  This position is designated at Level 1 for risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.  All established safety rules and regulations must be followed and personal protective equipment must be worn when performing job duties requiring their use.   

45% A. Performance of Related Duties
A1. Clean and maintain equipment and storage areas.
A2. Report needed maintenance or repairs to supervisor via work request through Custodian Lead.
A3. Move furniture, equipment, supplies, etc. as required.
A4. Inspect exterior building entrances for trash and dispose of appropriately.
A5. Provide snow removal from building entrances and surrounding sidewalks.
A6. Strip and refinish floor surfaces as needed.
A7. Shampoo all carpeted areas and clean entry mats.
A8. Clean all HVAC grilles in assigned building areas as assigned.
A9. Operation of powered custodial equipment.
A10. Must be authorized to drive University vehicles .
A11. Other duties as assigned.

45%   B. Routine daily maintenance of Zone 2 buildings
B1. Clean restrooms, showers, locker rooms, dining, and public use areas.  
B2. Clean meeting/classrooms, whiteboards and trays, erasers, etc.
B3. Clean and dust office areas.
B4. Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from buildings.
B5. Replenish supplies as necessary.
B6. Vacuum and spot-clean carpet.
B7. Sweep and/or dust mop floors.
B8. Wet mop or machine scrub floors.
B9. Clean hallways, stairwells, and drinking fountains.
B10. Clean and sweep entryways and walk off mats; empty ash urns.
B11. Wash walls, ceilings, inside windows, and glass building entrances.
B12. Replace bulbs, clean light fixtures, and replace diffusers.
B13. Open and secure buildings/rooms.
B14. Other duties as assigned.

10% C. Team Participation
C1. Function as member of team in special projects (i.e. relamping, tarping floors, seasonal cleaning).
C2. Function as a team member in problem solving for custodial and other areas.
C3. Assist other department/employees as required.
C4. Perform set-ups and tear downs involving movement of equipment and workshops, sports events, etc.
C5. Clean areas between events.

Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods.
Knowledge of cleaning solutions and agents.
Knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to work independently.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid WI driver’s license
