Instructional Academic Staff Lecturer in Dance

Theatre and Dance Department


The Theatre/Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater announces a 50%-time, Instructional Academic Staff Position in Dance beginning the Fall of 2013.  (Additional load possible by teaching a General Education Arts Survey course for the College.) The preferred candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in tap, jazz and an additional area of specialization that should include an Ethnic/World Cultural dance component.  The candidate will also work with the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Multicultural Affairs and Student Success to advise and mentor students involved in the university’s multicultural student dance organizations. This would include the creation of a weekly dance forum that fosters interaction between student dance organizations and regional artists in Ethnic/World Cultural Dance.  The candidate is invited to develop independent work commensurate with the creative goals of the Dance Program.  Successful candidate will have opportunities to choreograph for the annual dance concert DanceScapes.

Position Available: Fall 2013

MFA in Dance preferred
Strong evidence of successful university teaching;
Strong evidence of successful choreography.

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience and qualifications.

Department: The UWW Theatre/Dance Department has a staff of 10 faculty/academic staff members, serving around 80 theatre majors (BA, BFA, BSE) and 50+ dance minors.  Six productions are mounted each year, including one touring children’s play and one dance concert.  Dance students are trained in the technical areas of ballet and contemporary dance, with three levels of each.  Creative courses include Improvisation and two levels of Composition.  The annual March dance concert consists of work created by guest artists, faculty, and students.   The department participates in the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) Conference each year; nine pieces have been selected for performance in ACDFA Gala Concerts in the past ten years.   The student organization Dance Company presents a concert of student choreography in May of each year.  For more information, please see www.uww.edu/cac/theatre/ .
