Position: Director of New Student Programs (L32DM)
Working Title: Director of First Year Experience
Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Adult and Higher Education or related field and five or more years working in a university setting, preferably with an orientation program, new student seminar or other area that supports new students.
The next director will:
•currently serve in or previously served in a leadership position in a new student program related office (director, assistant/associate director) or related area.
•have a thorough understanding of student development theory, best practices in first-year programs, current issues supporting and retaining first-year students.
•have excellent oral and written communication.
•have interpersonal and organizational skills.
•demonstrate a commitment to diversity.
•understand and endorse the UW-Whitewater mission.
•demonstrate that they are collaborative and team player.
The preferred qualifications of the next director will be:
•supervisory experience of professional and student staff.
•experience with orientation programs.
•experience with new student seminar programs.
•experience with family programming.
•experience with assessment of programs.
Salary: Competitive; Anticipated salary $60,000 - $65,000
Responsibilities: The Director of New Student Programs will provide overall leadership to an outstanding first-year experience program. This includes all budgetary responsibility, supervision and hiring of 4staff (4.0 FTE), multiple student groups (orientation, peer mentors, team transfer) totaling about 100 students and 3 graduate assistants. The Director will provide leadership and supervision for the FYE office which includes orientation programs for over 2,000 new first-year students and over 700 transfer students during the summer for fall semester (and for spring semester), extended orientation before classes begin in the fall (Club U-Dub-Dub) and Week of Welcome, family programming, learning communities, and a peer mentor program. The director will directly coordinate the New Student Seminar each fall semester for nearly 2,000 first-year students. The director will supervise the Assistant Director, Coordinator of Peer Mentors, and Coordinator for Learning Communities, lead strategic planning for the department and provide regular assessment of the programs.

Community: Whitewater, a city with a population of over 14,000 is located in southeastern Wisconsin near the scenic Kettle Moraine State Forest. The immediate area offers a wide variety of summer and winter recreational activities, including facilities of the nearby Whitewater Lake recreational area. Whitewater is 45 miles from Madison, 50 miles from Milwaukee and 110 miles from Chicago.
