Announcement of a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position in
GRAPHIC DESIGN  | Motion Graphics and Visual Effects

The Department of Art and Design at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for Assistant Professor of Graphic Design with a focus in motion graphics and visual effects, beginning in Fall 2013. The faculty member will contribute to growing programs in Visual Communication Design and Media Arts and Game Development. Primary teaching responsibilities include courses in digital foundations, motion graphics, and digital imaging, with potential assignments in 2-D foundations. Continued research and design activity, participation in student advising, and service to the Department, College, and University is required. A successful applicant will have strong communication skills, work effectively within a team environment, and demonstrate a dedication to ensuring excellence in curricular development, delivery, and improvement.

Minimum qualifications include an MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent terminal degree with a focus in design for motion graphics and visual effects. Candidates must have strong illustration, design, and conceptual skills and demonstrate the potential for effective teaching of these skills. Proficiency in relevant industry software and the Macintosh platform is expected along with a grasp of cross platform workflow.  Previous university-level teaching experience in all levels of Graphic Design is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating experience in 4-D design, and to those with a strong record of professional activity. 

The position is a full time, 9-month tenure-track appointment with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The NASAD accredited Department of Art and Design offers programs in studio/fine art, art history, graphic design and media arts, serves approximately 500 majors and minors and offers B.A., B.S., B.S.E., and B.F.A. degrees. The Department of Art and Design is a part of the College of Arts and Communication and employs 20+ full and part-time faculty and is located in the Greenhill Center of the Arts, which also houses the Theatre/Dance and Music Departments and the Crossman Gallery (a 2,500 square-foot facility that presents professional, juried and student exhibitions).
