International Student Advisor

Position: The International Student Advisor (ISA) will perform duties as the Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and serve as an official institutional liaison with the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State and other federal agencies and offices as deemed appropriate by the Director. Under the supervision of the Director, the ISA will oversee and maintain two departmental budgets: one for the international student fee budget, and one for the international student association (student club). In conjunction with other CGE staff and external campus offices, the ISA will develop, promote, implement, and coordinate cultural, social, and educational programming, seminars and workshops for the UWW international student and exchange student communities. This position also involves supervision and collaboration with international students on a wide range of projects, on and off campus. Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities are part of the position.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Experience using databases, preferably in a higher education setting; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong writing ability, presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively with non-native speakers of English; Ability to relate well to individuals from diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds; Ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment; U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (as required by federal regulations for those fulfilling DSO and ARO positions); Demonstrated ability to collaborate on projects

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a field relevant to the requirements of the position; at least three years of professional experience, preferably in higher education or database management; knowledge of federal regulations governing nonimmigrant students and scholars in the US; Knowledge of PeopleSoft and SEVIS database systems; Marketing experience; and Proficiency in a foreign language.
