Position:  Reference & Instructional Technology Librarian

Qualifications: 

Required:
oALA-accredited MLS.
oCommitment to information literacy and technology literacy.
oDemonstrated familiarity with current Library technology trends.
oAbility to manage projects and work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
oExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including experience interacting with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
oKnowledge of web design principles, programming language(s), and accessibility and usability issues.
Preferred:
oExperience providing user services (reference and instruction) and applying relevant technology in an academic library.
oDemonstrated skills communicating technical information and training to library staff and users.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and experience. Minimum salary $40,526

Responsibilities:

Reference & Instruction Responsibilities (50%):
1.Provide in-person and virtual reference assistance to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s faculty, students and staff and other library users at the Reference Desk and via telephone, email and online chat. Assist users with the Library’s print, audiovisual and electronic collections. Serve scheduled hours including evening and weekend shifts and relieve the librarian on duty at the Reference Desk during temporary schedule conflicts.
2.Develop the Library's print, audiovisual and online collections in assigned subject areas to support the University's teaching and research. Develop areas of expertise as they relate to the University’s curriculum and the Library’s collections.
3.Conduct instruction sessions and orientation tours and develop handouts, online instructional guides, and tutorials to support library instruction.
4.Promote the Library’s resources and services by creating content for the Library's web site, particularly in assigned subject areas.
5.Participate in Reference & Instruction and Andersen Library decision-making and planning, serving on Library, University, community and professional committees as appropriate.
6.Maintain a harmonious and productive working relationship with faculty and staff in the Andersen Library and provide courteous service to all users of the resources and facilities of Andersen Library.
7.Perform other functions as requested by the Director of Andersen Library.
8.Serve as the Library’s liaison to assigned departments.

Instructional Technology Responsibilities (50%):
1.Investigate, recommend, and provide leadership and training for planning, designing, implementing, and promoting use of current or emerging software and technologies relevant to reference services and information literacy instruction, e.g., mobile technology, social media, online instructional tools, and course management systems, in collaboration with other Library staff.
2.Serve as Andersen Library’s liaison to the Learning Technology Center and develop relationships with other campus faculty and administrators, seeking to further the Library’s mission to support the University’s teaching, research and public service and to involve the Library appropriately in instructional technology-related campus initiatives.
3.Provide backup for maintenance of instructional technology.

Community: Whitewater, a city with a population of over 14,000 is located in southeastern Wisconsin near the scenic Kettle Moraine State Forest.  The immediate area offers a wide variety of summer and winter recreational activities, including facilities of the nearby Whitewater Lake recreational area.  Whitewater is 50 miles from Milwaukee, 45 miles from Madison and 110 miles from Chicago.
