JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: SENIOR DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST (Development Director/Assistant Director) YOUNG AUDITORIUM

Unclassified Academic Staff (non-instructional) Position

The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater invites applications for a full-time career position in development for the Young Auditorium.  The 1,350 seat award-winning venue presents a seasonal program of diverse touring performing artists that is strongly supported by the local and campus community. The Auditorium also presents the successful Horizons School Matinee Series, which serves the region’s elementary, middle and high school students; we are a Kennedy Center Partner. As an auxiliary operation and one of four theatres of the College of Arts and Communication’s Greenhill Center for the Arts, the auditorium also serves various campus and community constituents. The position reports to the Director of the Auditorium.

UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY - The University of Wisconsin – Whitewater campus is located in an area rich in recreational opportunities with easy access to the metropolitan cities of Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago.  UW-Whitewater is a premier public 4-year institution offering baccalaureate degrees in 46 fields and graduate degrees in select areas.  The university has a student enrollment of approximately 10,500 and a faculty/academic staff of 600.  The College of Arts and Communication is the fastest growing college on the campus.  It houses Art, Music, Theatre/Dance, Communication programs (including emphases in Public Relations, Journalism, and Mass Communications), and the Young Auditorium.    The Auditorium, now in its 21st  season, has emerged as a leading cultural center in the southeastern Wisconsin region.

Position Summary:  The selected candidate will have responsibility for leading and coordinating all fundraising programs on behalf of Young Auditorium; and will support the auditorium director and serve as director in the director’s absence:
•Pursue and coordinate four main tracks of fundraising: Membership, Corporate Sponsorship, Major Grants and Major and Planned Gifts.
•Research and identify support from prospective corporations, foundations and major gift prospects, determine the feasibility of acquiring funds from these sources, prepare briefing materials, proposal ideas, and solicitation strategies, and make personal calls.
•Pursue funding for the auditorium’s existing endowments and the creation of new endowments.
•Coordinate the annual membership campaign recruiting new members and encouraging renewing members to increase their level of membership.
•Interface with the Development Director of the College of Arts and Communication, the Alumni Office and the UWW Foundation.
•Complete the stewardship process by managing the proper acknowledgement and reporting of all private gifts.
•As assistant director of the auditorium, maintain a current knowledge base in all areas of auditorium operations, including programming, marketing, audience services and budgeting in order to support the directorship and serve as director when needed.

Requirements: bachelor’s degree required, masters preferred; a minimum of three years fundraising or related experience, five or more years preferred; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects. Experience in fundraising for the performing arts is desired, but not essential. The successful candidate will be a confident, charismatic self-starter.
