Founded in 1868, The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is a regional comprehensive university with an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students in 45 undergraduate majors, 13 master’s degree programs, and one specialist degree program. The College of Education has held NCATE accreditation since 1963 and its 100 faculty serve over 2,200 undergraduate and 450 graduate students.
Spanish-English Bilingual and Literacy Education
The 26-member Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or beginning associate professor level to teach courses, supervise field experiences and advise undergraduate and graduate students in the licensure program in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bilingual-Bicultural Education, and also in the area of elementary and secondary literacy education.
We are seeking candidates with: a) an earned doctorate with emphasis in teaching English as a second language, bilingual education, elementary and/or secondary literacy, or the equivalent (ABD will be considered); b) at least three years of K-12 bilingual and literacy teaching experience; c) academic proficiency in English and Spanish; and d) evidence of scholarly productivity or a well developed research agenda. Desirable qualifications also include teaching experience at the university level, experience with teacher professional development and learning communities, experience with recent immigrants, and experience with web-based instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching diverse learners.
In addition to teaching and advising, responsibilities include advising in the ESL and bilingual education program, conducting educational research, and serving on department, college and university committees. Possible graduate and undergraduate courses to be taught include: ESL/Bilingual methods, curriculum development, issues or assessment courses, teacher action research, and elementary and/or secondary literacy.
