Special Education

The Department of Special Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater announces a full time tenure track position in the area of early childhood special education beginning in the 2010 academic year. We seek candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and teaching diverse learners.  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Special Education and in the Early Childhood Education program, which is a cross-departmental major; advising; supervision of directed teaching; some administrative duties; and participation in research and service activities. The position will start August 23, 2010.

 

Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate (or defense completed by start date) in special education or a closely related field with emphasis in early childhood special education. A minimum of three years experience providing direct service to children birth through eight years old.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

University teaching, advising, and supervision experience; potential for or an established record of scholarly activity; and a demonstrated commitment to the preparation of teachers within a multicultural context. Collaboration skills to work with a cross-departmental team are essential.

UW-Whitewater is a premier public university with an enrollment of 10,850 students. The Department of Special Education is the only NCATE accredited program in the state of Wisconsin. The campus is part of the 26-campus University of Wisconsin system. Located in a community near the scenic Kettle Moraine State Forest in southeastern Wisconsin, Whitewater is within convenient driving distance to the metropolitan areas of Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago.
