  1. Call to Order: Chair Erdmann called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m.
  2. Roll Call
    1. Chair Erdmann welcomed new members: John Aulerich (B&E); E. Andrew Kapp, Dianne Jones, Penny Portman, and Claudia Rinaldi (Edu).
    2. Senators present: Ahmadi, Anderson, Aulerich, Bren, Cartwright, de Onis, Epps, Erdmann, Ghavamshahidi, Heyning, Hixson, Hogan, Huang, Johnson, Kapp, Klug, Kozlowicz, Lollar, Moini, Molloy, Ossers, Parks, Porter, Portman, Rinaldi, Rottet, Sawyer, Stinson, Weston
    3. Senators absent: *Jones, Oravec, Samaranayake, *Topp, Wentz, *Wildermuth (*informed Secretary)
  3. Election of Senate Officers
    1. Election of Faculty Senate Chair: Kozlowicz/Ahmadi moved to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Ed Erdmann. Passed.
    2. Election of Faculty Senate Secretary: Kozlowicz/Ahmadi moved to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Barb Bren. Passed.
    3. Selection of Faculty Senate Executive Committee1, representing:
      1. Faculty Senate Chair (as elected in 3.a. above)
      2. Faculty Senate Secretary (as elected in 3.b. above)
      3. College of Arts and Communication (chosen in caucus): Kim Hixson
      4. College of Business and Economics (chosen in caucus): David Porter
      5. College of Education (chosen in caucus): Virginia Epps
      6. College of Letters and Sciences (chosen in caucus): Hadley Klug
      7. University Library and other (chosen in caucus): Joyce Huang
      8. At Large (elected by Senate): Porter/Ahmadi moved to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Jim Molloy. Passed.
      9. At Large (elected by Senate): Porter/Ahmadi moved to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Joe Hogan. Passed.

      1. Meetings begin at 2:15 p.m., in the James R. Connor University Center 219 (as reservations permit) and continue until business is finished, potentially 5 PM or later
      2. Faculty Senate: September 9, 2003; October 7, 2003; November 11, 2003; December 9, 2003; February 3, 2004; March 9, 2004; April 6, 2004; and May 4, 2004
      3. Faculty Senate Executive Committee:2 August  26, 2003; September 23, 2003; October 28, 2003; November 25, 2003; January 20, 2004; February 24, 2004; March 16, 2004;  and April 20, 2004
  5. Adjournment: Epps/Hogan moved to adjourn at 2:30 p.m.
1Meetings of the Executive Committee are typically at 2:15 in UC 65, the Governance Center (below Hamilton Center), on Tuesdays two weeks before Senate meetings and as needed.

2The UWW Faculty Constitution Sec. 4 A. 2. specifies that "During the intervals between meetings of the Faculty Senate the Executive Committee shall conduct the business of the Faculty Senate subject to the constraint imposed upon it by the Senate." Hence, those who serve on the Executive Committee should be prepared--if not actually to meet during the summer months--at least to be available for communication with the chair throughout the summer months.
