  1. Call to Order:  Chair Erdmann called the meeting to order at 2:19 p.m.
  2. Roll Call

  4. Reports of Committees
    1. University Curriculum Committee: Transmittal of actions of Friday, November 4, 2005, (please see  <http://acadaff.uww.edu/UCC/2005-06/110405/110405T.html> for download links)  (Note: The UCC meeting scheduled for October 21, 2005 was cancelled)  Cartwright/Valadez moved approval.  Passed.     2. Faculty Senate Executive Commitee:
      Resolved that the Faculty Senate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater recommends to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents that the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater students who have applied for graduation in December 2005 and who have been certified by the University Registrar to have met all academic requirements and completed all of their courses of study be granted their degrees at the December 2005 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater commencement exercises.  Hixson/Parboteeah moved approval.  Passed.   5. Old Business
    1. Appoint one UWW faculty member to the Sexual Assault Prevention Advisory Committee replacement one-year appointment; term to expire 2006 (please see <http://www.uww.edu/uwwhdbk/committees/ac-assault.htm>).  No nominations.  Will be readvertised.
    2. Appoint two faculty members to the Office of Recreation Sports and Facilities Advisory Council.
      1. Term 1:  One faculty member for the balance of the 2005-06 academic year.   Penny Portman
      2. Term 2:  One faculty member for both the balance of the 2005_2006 academic year and for the 2006-2007 academic year.  Steven Albrechtsen 
  6. New Business
    1. Retirement Resolution(s):  none
    2. Resolution on changing the undergraduate grading system (E. Andrew Kapp): Whereas, the Chancellor of the University in consultation with the Faculty is responsible for establishing grading systems within the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (s.36.09(3)(a) Wi Stats and Article II of the UWW Constitution of the Faculty); and the current system of grading for undergraduate students, consisting of five increments, does not allow for sufficient specificity to accurately reflect the students' command of the subject matter; be it resolved that the UW-Whitewater Faculty Senate calls for a change to the undergraduate grading system from the current system of 5 increments represented by the letter designations A, B, C, D and F to one of seven increments A, A/B, B, B/C, C, D, F.  Munro/Chenoweth moved to postpose until no later than the February 7, 2006 meeting.  Passed.  A subcommittee of Munro, Kapp and Gruber will complete research on this issue.
    3. Faculty Service Award Selection Committee (Robert Gruber and John Valadez are continuing in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 terms) (please see http://acadaff.uww.edu/awards/SERVICE.html ): 
      1. Choose two Faculty Senators for 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 terms:  Valadez moved to close nominations and declare the selection of Elena Bertozzi and Jim Molloy by unanimous consent.  Passed.
      2. Choose one former recipient of the Faculty Service Award to serve a one-year term, 2005/2006:   Valadez moved to close nominations and declare the selection of David Cartwright by unanimous consent.
  7. Announcements and Information (no action unless noted otherwise)
    1. Report of the Chancellor:
      1. New Travel Regulations:  We have an obligation to comply with the new travel regulations.  In about six months there will be an assessment of these policies and if necessary, recommendations for changes will be offered.
      2. On November 17, 2005 there will be a campus meeting called by Chancellor Saunders to report on the results of the surveys and campus summits.
    2. Report of the Provost
      1. The UC remodeling (Pat Freer, UC Director)
      2. COBE building will be situated where Sayles & Baker Halls are currently located and these buildings will be demolished in Summer 2007.  It has not been determined whether Salisbury will be demolished.  That decision will be made on November 18, 2005.
      3. Distributed update on NSSE Results 2001-2005 in the areas of Diversity, Expectations and Mental Activities.

        1. ollow up on resolution 1.2.c. of the UW Board of Regents, September 9, 2005 "Review of Employment Practices": the Regent president has formed a committee to study future rules changes affecting discipline and dismissal of Faculty.  The committee members are Regent Michael Spector (Quarles & Brady LLP. retired); Regent Peggy Rosenzweig (Wisconsin State Senate '93 to '02, State Assembly from '83 to '92); Regent Brent Smith (WTC Board and Johns and Flaherty, La Crosse); UW-Plattville Chancellor David Markee; Professor Walter Dickey (appointed Oct. 10 as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, UW Madison Law School); and UW System Legal Counsel Pat Brady.  The first meeting was last Thursday, November 3, at 3:00 p.m. in Van Hise Hall 19th Floor Conference Room.  All guests present were invited to speak to the committee.  The Badger Herald reported on the Nov. 3 meeting; see <http://badgerherald.com/news/2005/11/04/uw_committee_begins_.php>
