- Announcements and Information (no action unless noted otherwise)
- Report of the Chancellor: The Chancellor reported that the Governor and the leaders of the Assembly and Senate are negotiating on how to handle the anticipated $652 million dollar shortfall in state revenue each has a slightly different plan. There is no solid information on how this will impact the System yet. Out-of-state freshman enrollment is up fifty percent which is a financial gain for the campus. Driving a diverse economy, the 2009/2011 growth agenda plan, was submitted last week and has three components(1) preparing students for the global economy, (2) preparing students for science and technology fields, and (3) increasing access to bachelors and masters degrees for Wisconsin students.
- Report of the Provost: The Provost also spoke about the growth agenda, noting that the percentage of Minnesotans holding a bachelors degree is six percent higher than in Wisconsin. Two other issues raised were a need to revise the 2012 calendar due to when Labor Day falls and an examination of some online methods for student evaluations of faculty.
- Report of the Senate Chair: Chair Hogan announced that we will need to elect a new Faculty Senate chair for the 2008/09 term as he will becoming chair of Languages and Literatures. The classified unions have agreed, though not yet voted on, a 2-1-2 pay plan for the bienniumwhether this will affect how JOCER handles the unclassified salaries is unclear. The Senates resolution on D2L problems has had some impact as members of System IT visited the campus to discuss certain issues. System is looking for a new director of the Office of Professional and Instruction Developmentif interested, see the System website for details. Faculty members are encouraged to attend a May 22 meeting in Madison on the development of common outcomes and values for all baccalaureate graduates of the UW System, for details contact Chair Hogan.
