Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
In order to receive your first William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, federal law requires that you complete Entrance Counseling.
This online Entrance Counseling is designed to help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a new borrower in the Direct Loan Program.
Who Must Complete Entrance Counseling?
Any student who has not previously borrowed funds from the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program. Graduate students borrowing a Graduate Plus Loan as of July 2008 must complete entrance counseling for the Graduate Plus Loan.

Follow the steps listed below once you have opened Student Loans.gov, the Department of Education online student loans portal.
- Sign In (you will need your Dept of Education PIN)
- Click Complete Entrance Counseling (twice)
- Select Undergraduate Or Graduate
- Read Counseling Instructions
- Choose your school (Select Wisconsin and then UW-Whitewater from the dropdown)
- Complete counseling session by reading the information and answering the corresponding questions at the bottom of each page
