Relationships are to the nonprofit world what profits are to the corporate world, says Karen Bava, the UW-Whitewater Foundation accountant. Bava has been with the foundation for 15 years, and she loves her work on campus.
"I really enjoy it," she said. "It's been great. You could say there are a lot of long-term relationships here."
Bava said that everyone in the foundation office understands, respects and coordinates with everyone else.
"It's a collaborative office," she said.
Bava handles a variety of financial matters but she especially enjoys work related to scholarships. She said it has been a pleasure watching scholarships grow
Bava lives in Sullivan, is married and she has three adult children. When Bava is not at work, she enjoys quilting and exercising.
She particularly enjoys taking walks on the UW-Whitewater campus, where the landscaping is vibrant in every season.
"The flowers are wonderful," she said. "If you take a walk you can see so many different varieties."
