The February 9, 2012, meeting was called to order at 2:15 p.m. by Dean John Stone.

Manuel Ossers moved, with a second by Paul Ambrose, to approve the minutes of the November 3, 2011 meeting, with no comments or corrections, the motion carried.

  1. The final Spring 2012 graduate enrollment comparison, which was distributed with the agenda, revealed that graduate FTE is down from one year ago, but up from two years ago. Most of the decline is in the College of Education, which is true of graduate programs across the system.
  2. John Stone is part of a task force for UW System to improve the UW System curriculum approval process. When completed, in theory, the process should take no longer than four months, down from the current two-year process.
  3. The spring 2012 graduate commencement ceremony will be held on May 12, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. in Young Auditorium.
  4. The application deadline for spring 2012 graduate research grants is February 10, 2012.
  5. The application deadline for 2012-13 graduate assistantships is February 15, 2012.

Information Only Item

Anene Okocha moved, with a second by Leon Arriola, to approve the Information Only items on the agenda. The motion carried.

  1. Curricular Action: Grading basis change from the Department of Counselor Education: COUNSED 797: Post-Masters Counseling Internship
  2. Curricular Action: Prerequisite change from the Department of Counselor Education: All Counselor Education 700-level courses

Discussion Item

A copy of the graduate grading policy was distributed with the agenda. The council members were asked to go back to their departments and discuss the proposed change from the current graduate grading scheme, to one that aligns with the undergraduate grading scheme. The proposal will be brought back to a future meeting for a vote.

With no other discussion items, Sang Choi moved, with a second by Mark Schroeder, to adjourn the meeting at 2:42 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Sally Lange
