GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES


May 6, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Dean John Stone at 2:18 p.m. The minutes of the March 11, 2010 meeting were approved on a Manuel Ossers/Rebecca Shrum motion.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Beginning next year, the graduate assistantship application deadline will be February 15. This change is being made so that we are more competitive with other regional programs.
  2. A document regarding professional Ph.D. programs was attached to the agenda. This was discussed at a recent meeting of the graduate school deans. We will begin looking at the feasibility of offering one or more in the near future.
  3. A copy of the educational attainment goals was also attached to the agenda. By 2020-2021, there is to be a 23-28% enrollment increase from where we are now.
  4. Also attached to the agenda was the fall 2010 enrollment report to date.

 

Anene Okocha moved, with a second by Pete Mesner, to approve Information Only items A through AK on the agenda. With no questions or concerns, the motion carried. Items included:

New Business

The new business items were considered separately. Alvaro Taveira moved, seconded by Anene Okocha, to approve the new course form the Department of Educational Foundations. This course will meet the needs of those already working in their jobs. With no discussion, the motion carried.

  1. Curricular Action: New Course from the Department of Educational Foundations: LIBMEDIA 793c Supervised School Library Practicum Combined

 

Next, John Zbikowski moved, with a second by Kelly Witte, to approve the change in the MSE-PD Information, Technology, and Libraries emphasis. With no discussion, the motion was approved.

  1. Curricular Action: Change in Degree from the Department of Educational Foundations: MSE-Professional Development, Emphasis in Information, Technology, and Libraries

 

Alvaro Taveira then moved to approve the change in the MS-Safety program. Paul Gregory seconded the motion. The motion carried.

  1. Curricular Action: Change in Major: MS-Safety Include SFETY 757 Principles of Occupational Epidemiology as an alternative to students in the MS-Safety to meet the research requirements for the degree

 

The change in the admissions requirement for the TAES program was approved unanimously on a John Zbikowski/Manuel Ossers motion.

  1. Other Curricular Action: Change in the Admissions Requirement for TAES (Teaching in Alternative Education Settings) Certificate Program Delete current Additional Admission Requirement (Applicants must hold or be eligible for a regular license in the State of Wisconsin for teaching in public schools.)

 

And, finally, Paul House moved to approve the creation of a THS grading basis for all 799 courses. S-A Welch seconded the motion. Motion carried.

John Chenoweth moved, with a second by Kelly Witte, to adjourn the meeting at 2:40 p.m. The motion carried.
