GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES


May 5, 2011
PRESENT: Scott Bradley, Chris Calvert-Minor, John Chenoweth, Sang Choi (for Alvaro Taveira), Will Drago, Rashiqa Kamal, Michaela Mack, Carol Normand, Anene Okocha, Mark Schroeder, Shannon Stuart, S-A Welch, Michael Wessely, Kelly Witte, and John Zbikowski.

The May 5, 2011, meeting was called to order at 2:25 p.m by John Stone.

The minutes of the March 10, 2011 meeting were unanimously approved on a Will Drago/Mark Schroeder motion.

Announcements for May 5 Graduate Council

  1. The summer and fall 2011 enrollment reports were distributed with the agenda. Overall, the summer enrollment (graduate and undergraduate) is ahead of last year’s pace, up 89 FTE. Graduate FTE is up 8.5 compared to the same time last year. Fall totals are up 178 from the same time last year. Graduate enrollment is down 5.5 FTE.
  2. A summary of the Graduate Assistantship Student Learning and Satisfaction Survey reveals that students are generally very satisfied with their experiences
  3. The Higher Learning Commission & Lumina Foundation’s Degree Qualifications Profile was included with the agenda for review.
  4. Also included with the agenda is a report, prepared by Russ Kashian, which demonstrates the financial difference a graduate degree will mean.
  5. A graduate only commencement ceremony will be held for the first time on Saturday, May 14th at 3:00 p.m. in Young Auditorium.
