Jazz Pedagogy II 1 u

Students in Jazz Pedagogy II will acquire hands-on experience with the organization, performance and directing of both the large and small jazz ensembles. This will be facilitated between a student big band and multiple small groups that will include class member on major and secondary instruments. Volunteer students will cover positions not available in the class enrollment to achieve complete instrumentation in all of the ensembles.
Prereq: MUSC 667.

Advanced Jazz Arranging 2 u

An in-depth study of the formats and techniques involved in arranging and composing for the jazz big band [4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones, piano, guitar, bass, and drums]. A complete arrangement for modern big band will be required, performed, and recorded.
