Certificate in Transition Specialist Program


The Graduate Transition Specialist Certificate Program is designed to prepare professionals with capital Bachelors Degrees in Education or related fields to facilitate successful transition planning for individuals with disabilities throughout their lifespan.

Entrance Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree


A minimum of 2.75 overall as an undergraduate


Applicants for this program must have taken SPECED 606: Transition Programming for Students with Disabilities, or the equivalent, or dept/coord. approval.


Note: Units earned in the Transitions Specialist Certificate Program may also count for the Master of Science in Education Degree Program in Special Education.


CERTIFICATE IN TRANSITION SPECIALIST PROGRAM:

The Certificate Program will require a minimum of 15 units of the courses listed below. This is a tentative list of courses to be included in the program.

  • SPECED 703 PROMOTING REFORM THROUGH COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP
  • SPECED 706 TRANSITION ASSESSMENT FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
  • SPECED 781 SCHOOL-TO-ADULT LIFE TRANSITIONAL PROGRAMMING
  • SPECED 702 REFLECTIVE PRACTICE AND ACTION RESEARCH
  • SPECED 704 APPLIED FIELD ACTION RESEARCH IN SPECIAL EDUCATION

Completion of the capstone course, Applied Action Research in Special Education (SPECED 704), represents the final requirement for the Transition Specialist Certificate.
