H-Option FAQ

Q: What is an H-Option Agreement?

A: An H-Option is a formal contract between an Honors student and professor, which allows the student to receive honors credit in a course that does not have an honors designation. The H-Option requires the student to work with the professor to design and implement an honors curriculum that goes above and beyond the regular course requirements. After an H-option is completed, the course is converted to an Honors course.

Q: When should H-Options be used?

A: H-Options should be used only when the course in question is not a designated Honors Course.

Q: Can H-Options be used during summer or winterim sessions?

A: No, H-Options are only available during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Q: Where can students obtain H-Option contracts?

A: Contracts are available in the Honors Program office. If the office is closed, students can get a copy here.

Q: What signatures do H-Options require?

A: The H-Options contract itself must be signed by the student and his/her professor at the beginning and end of the semester. Honors staff will take care of the rest.

Q: Where do students submit their H-Options?

A: Students should submit their H-Option contracts directly to the Honors Office.

Q: What are some H-Options that other students have done?

A:  This .pdf file contains H-Option project ideas that have been completed by other students to help you begin thinking of an H-Option project for yourself.  However, just because a particular instructor agreed to a project detailed here does not mean that another instructor would choose to do so. Determining what makes a project an "H-Option" is always up to the discretion of the instructor. H-Option Project Ideas
