Yes. There are actually a few reasons why we need you present during the setup of your new computer. First is to back up your personal files. We need you to assist us with locating all of your personal documents including email, favorites, and 3rd party software that will have to be reinstalled on your new machine. Another reason we need you present during the setup is it is not uncommon with a new computer to receive new and/or upgraded software that may require us to offer some instructions on how to use it. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. Finally, we need you present so that we can ensure that you are able to log onto your computer and go about your daily common tasks. We like to make sure nothing was missed in our setup by allowing you to test your computer and ask questions such as where programs are located, why icons on the desktop are changed, or if you are able to print to your common printers.
We pick up on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (when applicable) Fridays of the month. However, in order to pick up your surplus on that day, we must have received a surplus declaration form, and the surplus must be located in a place that is accessible at the time of pickup. Please see the "PC Surplus" section of this website for more detailed information. Please Note: Some surplus days are heavier than others. There may be a two week delay in picking up orders when a very large pickup (such as a lab) is requested on campus.
