Frequently Asked Questions

When will my computer be setup?

It typically takes about three days to setup and ready the computer for delivery once it is received. After setup is complete, you will be contacted to schedule a time in which your computer can be setup. In doing so, you will be asked to supply a schedule of times in which you will be available over the next week so that we may find a mutual time. There are periods of time when we receive a fairly large number of computer purchases all at once, and it can delay the process. To give you some idea of those time periods please click on the "Important Dates" section of this website. There it will show you some of the heavy purchase dates and a schedule that follows those time periods. If you have purchased a computer during these periods of time, please be patient; we will attempt to contact you at our earliest convenience. Lastly, you may look at the " View my Purchase " section of this website which records when your computer has been received, when its ready to be delivered, and any information we have added regarding contacting you.

Do I need to be there for my computer setup?

Yes. There are actually a few reasons why we need you present during the setup of your new computer. First is to back up your personal files. We need you to assist us with locating all of your personal documents including email, favorites, and 3rd party software that will have to be reinstalled on your new machine. Another reason we need you present during the setup is it is not uncommon with a new computer to receive new and/or upgraded software that may require us to offer some instructions on how to use it. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. Finally, we need you present so that we can ensure that you are able to log onto your computer and go about your daily common tasks. We like to make sure nothing was missed in our setup by allowing you to test your computer and ask questions such as where programs are located, why icons on the desktop are changed, or if you are able to print to your common printers.

When will my surplus be picked up?

We pick up on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (when applicable) Fridays of the month. However, in order to pick up your surplus on that day, we must have received a surplus declaration form, and the surplus must be located in a place that is accessible at the time of pickup. Please see the "PC Surplus" section of this website for more detailed information. Please Note: Some surplus days are heavier than others. There may be a two week delay in picking up orders when a very large pickup (such as a lab) is requested on campus.

Whom do I contact for additional information?

Currently you can contact the head of the Total Desktop Care group, Greg Roehl (roehlg@uww.edu) with any other questions not answered on this site.
