UWW Wireless network is a product of collaboration between the University Technology Committee (UTC), campus leadership, and Instructional Communication and Information Technology (iCIT). UTC governs the overall deployment and helps in establishing priorities of campus locations. Campus Leadership sets strategic direction in the use of wireless at UWW. iCIT manages the infrastructure and ensures the integrity, availability, and security of wireless access.
The wireless network is an extension of the wired network. The policies set forth in the UWW Network Use policies apply to the wired network as well as the wireless network. However, since wireless networks frequently have a smaller bandwidth and are susceptible to environmental conditions, additional precautions are necessary. Management is centralized, enabling the adoption of new standards and features such as 802.1x authentication, seamless roaming between access points, and reduction of interference between devices using the same frequency range.
