Project Plan and Timeline

Phase I - Convenience Access - Complete

August 2004 – May 2005

• Acquire necessary infrastructure equipment and wireless access points for wireless access in common areas of instructional buildings
• Conduct site surveys in common areas of UC, Library, and some instructional buildings
• Plan the deployment of wireless in Residence Halls
• Schedule access point cabling work and power (as needed) with FP&M
• Prepare instructions for laptop setup for customers
• Install infrastructure equipment
• Deploy wireless in the UC and the Library
• Deploy the next set of access points (20-25) in "common" areas of other instructional buildings.
• Convert from WEP security to WPA security.

Phase II

June 2005 – January 2006

• Install additional AP’s in instructional and outdoor spaces
• Add support for 802.11a in all existing and new locations
• Tune performance and accessibility of the wireless network
• Begin the deployment of up to 70 access points in the Residence Halls
• Support for PDA’s on wireless network
• Offer wireless access to campus visitors

February 2006 - June 2006

• Continue deployment in Residence Halls
• Plan deployment of wireless in other areas of the campus
• Plan for adoption of wireless technologies into curriculum

Phase III

2006 -2007

• Plan deployment of wireless in other areas of the campus
• Consider wireless for voice, video, and data gathering applications
