Antivirus software is a great protection agent for your computer; it actively combats against viruses, malware, and identity theft. UW-Whitewater has partnered with Symantec to provide antivirus software licenses for the entire campus.|
All UW-Whitewater employees and students, with active Net-IDs, are able to download Symantec antivirus software on their personal computers. The personal version of Symantec Endpoint Protection should not be installed on University-owned computers.
Attention Faculty and Staff: The current version of Windows 10, version 1709 is no longer compatible with Symantec Antivirus. If your device is running this version, we recommend downloading and installing AVG.
If you are unsure of your current Windows 10 version, please follow these steps, Windows 10 Version (PDF).
Need to know if you have a 32bit or 64bit Windows operating system? Go to the Windows Control Panel and select "System," the bit depth will be listed under "System type".
Supported Operating Systems:
Mac: OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite), 10.11 (El Capitan) and 10.12 (Sierra)
PC: Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 & Windows 10
Note: If you already have antivirus software installed on your computer (including free antivirus trials), you will need to uninstall that software before installing the UW-Whitewater Symantec software. Having two different antivirus programs installed on one computer can cause conflicts.
