Will Office 2007 change the file format of my existing documents?
No. When working with Office 2003/2004 files (.doc, .xls, .ppt) in Office 2007, the files will remain in 2003/2004 format until you select Convert from the Office menu.
I am using Office 2003. How do I install the Office 2007 Compatibility pack for Windows?
The computer must be connected to the campus network and logged in through Novell.
Go to Start » programs » ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management » Application Window.
browse to WHITEWATER » Install » Microsoft » Office.
Double-click Office 2007 Compatibility pack.
Will installing Office 2007 remove my current version of Microsoft Office?
Yes. After installation, Office 2007 will be the only version of Microsoft Office installed on the computer.
How do I get Office 2007?
Office 2007 is currently available for installation.
- If you are Faculty or Staff in one of the Colleges:
- please follow the instructions listed below or contact the Technology Support Center Helpdesk (x4357) to schedule one of our technicians to complete the installation on your computer.
- If you are part of an Administrative Office:
- please talk to your department head about your office upgrading together, which is the recommended process.
- After determining an appropriate time for your area to upgrade, follow the instructions listed below or contact the Technology Support Center Helpdesk (x4357) to schedule one of our technicians to complete the installation.
- If you are not a member of either of the above mentioned groups:
- Contact the Technology Support Center Helpdesk (x4357) for information or instructions for upgrading.
- Labs will be receiving Office 2007 during Winterim.
Will Office 2007 force me to use the new file formats?
No. By default when you start a new document from scratch, it will be in the Office 2007 file format. At any time, you can choose Save As and save it in the 2003/2004 file format.
What are the new Office 2007 file formats?
Office 2007 files are saved using the new Office Open XML File Formats. Specifically, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), and powerpoint (.pptx) save files using new file extensions.
How do I get Office 2007 for my home computer?

How do I install Office 2007 on my campus-owned computer?
To install Office 2007 on a campus-owned computer:

- Go to Start » programs » ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management » Application Window.

I am using Office 2004 for Mac and have received a file in the 2007/2008 format that I can't open. What do I do?
There are some options:
- Contact the Technology Support Center Helpdesk to upgrade to Office 2008 for Mac.
*Note: You must be running OS 10.4.9 or later to install the File Converter* - Update Office 2004 for Mac to version 11.5 using Microsoft AutoUpdate and install the Open XML File Converter found here.
*Note: You must be running OS 10.4.9 or later to install the File Converter* - Request that files be sent to you in the 2003/2004 file formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt)
- Open the file on a PC and save it in the 2003/2004 format. (The PC will need to have Office 2007 or Office 2000/XP/2003 with the Compatibility Pack)
- Send the file to the Technology Support Center Helpdesk and ask for it to be converted to the 2003/2004 format.
How can I verify that the Compatibility pack is installed?
There are two ways.
- Open "Add or Remove programs" from the Control panel. If it is installed, you will see "Compatibility pack for the 2007 Office system" in the list of programs.
- Open Microsoft Word and go to File » Save As. Look in the "Save as type" dropdown menu for Word 2007 Document (*.docx).
What is the Office 2007 Compatibility pack for?
It allows Office 2000/Xp/2003 programs to open and save files using the Office 2007 file formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx).
