UW-Whitewater faculty and staff have access to a number of distance education technologies that enable them to reach students who are distant from campus, share resources/courses with other UW institutions, and participate in statewide meetings without leaving campus. WisLine audio conferencing uses standard telephone lines to link individuals at sites anywhere in the state or the world. WisLine Web is a web-based service that link participants using just a web browser and a speakerphone, from the convenience of an office or WisLine Web sites around the state. UW-Whitewater can also downlink professional development activities delivered by satellite. A statewide digital video network offers audio and video interaction with students or colleagues across the UW system. All of these methods require real-time synchronous interaction; in other words, students or colleagues need to be at a specific site at a specific time in order to participate.
In addition to the synchronous forms of interaction listed above, faculty and staff use Web-based course management systems and tools that enable them to deliver all or a portion of their course(s) on the Internet.
Distance education courses are listed each term in the UW-W Schedule of Classes under their respective department headings at the Registrar's Office. A search mechanism of UW System distance education program and courses can be found online at Distance Learning Wisconsin.
