Assigning Points and Exporting Grades Using Turning Point: Importing Point Values into Desire2Learn (D2L)

In order to collect grades (point values) in Turning Point, you must use the participant list retrieved from clickers.uww.edu in your Turning Point session.  Refer to the  step-by-step guide on Getting a Participant List with Clicker Device ID for my class.

ASSIGNING POINTS (SET POINT VALUES)

You can identify specific point values for answers in the range 1-10,000. You can assign different point values to different answers (if one answer should be awarded more than another, for example).

Answers marked Correct have an effective point value of 100. Answers marked Incorrect or No Value have an effect point value of 0.

To set a point value for an answer:

Once you have assigned points to your items, you will poll your students and save your session data (tpz file).

IMPORTANT: Make sure you save your session file to some drive accessible to you before attempting to export the data. Refer to the “Using Turning Technology in your class” guide for details.

EXPORTING SESSION DATA

You can export the data from a session file into a text file. You can use the text file to import the data into a variety of other applications, specifically, Desire2Learn (D2L).

You need to export the data from the session file in using a predefined scheme for certain the D2L gradebook.  In order to export data, you will need the export scheme we created for D2L called: D2L Export Scheme 2.2.06.tpx.  Download the Export scheme. If you have problems, try downloading the file inside a ZIP archive.

This scheme will need to be loaded into TurningPoint.  To load the cheme, click on Tools. From the dop-down menu, select Session Management, and Export Session Data. Click the Next Button.
Tools drop-down menu

Place a check mark in the Use Export Schemes box. Click on the folder icon to load an export scheme. Browse to find the export scheme file you downloaded and open it. The scheme may not appear in your list of available schemes right away. If you go back a step, and return to this screen it will appear in the list from that point forward.
