Storage Migration UPDATE
With the migration of Windows G: drives and Mac data volume files last weekend, UW-Whitewater has successfully completed a storage migration to a new system that will position the university for long-term growth. Thank you to the campus community for help and support in making this initiative go smoothly.
A final step in the process will be to uninstall the Novell client. The uninstall should improve login time and speed of access to the new network storage drives. The Novell uninstall will be assigned to all Windows XP office computers, and will be scheduled to automatically launch on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 4 a.m. Here’s what to expect:
- It is recommended that users leave their computers at the login screen at the end of the day on Wednesday, Jan. 25, before this scheduled uninstall, so the computer will be ready for use at the start of the next day.
- The uninstall will happen automatically at 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26 and requires each computer to restart.
- If your computer is at the login screen during the uninstall, it will restart automatically.
- If your computer is logged in during the uninstall, your computer will prompt you to restart, but will not do so until you click OK in the prompt box.
- If your computer is off during the scheduled time, the uninstall will happen shortly after the next startup. Users can wait 1-2 minutes at the login screen for the computer to restart automatically or login and receive the prompt to restart as previously described.
- After the uninstall, the login window will look different, but users will continue to login the same way. To view the new login window, visit the iCIT blog at Storage Migration
If you wish to uninstall Novell before the scheduled time next week, you may run the "Uninstall Novell Client" from the System Utilities folder of the ZENworks Application Window yourself. Contact the TSC Helpdesk for more information or if you have questions about the Novell uninstallation, at 262-472-HELP (4357) or email helpdesk@uww.edu.
