Daylight Saving Time

As a result of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Daylight Saving Time (DST) in 2007 will now begin on Sunday, March 11 and end on Sunday, November 4. The extension of DST will affect most computer systems and applications, which have important time dependencies.

iCIT dedicated many hours to assess the scope of the change and plan the process for DST updates to minimize the impact to campus. (See a list of Affected Systems and Remediation Progress.)

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU AND YOUR COMPUTER?

  • iCIT will be applying all necessary updates for campus systems and desktops. The final update for office computers was applied starting Friday evening, 2/23.
  • Outlook calendar users received an additional communication later on 2/22, regarding the DST update and its affect on calendar meetings.
  • Macintosh users were updated with software updates from Apple. Be sure to always approve software updates.
  • Your personal computer at home, Mac or Windows, will be addressed through the automatic updates from Microsoft.
  • Windows mobile devices and Palm PDAs will also require updates; instructions were available Friday 2/23 on the iCIT web site.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

For your campus computer, turn off your office computer before leaving for the weekend. When you restart your computer any time after 12:01 Saturday 2/24, you will receive the Windows update for DST.

There are also Additional Instructions for Outlook Calendar Users.
