Web Camera Recommendations
Instructors who wish to purchase a Web Camera for instructional purposes should note the following.
If you are using a PC, any web camera with a USB connection should work with your computer. The quality and the features, however, will vary from one model to another, dependant mostly on cost. The output quality is also dependent upon the software used for sharing or recording video. The following models are currently recommended for the PC:
- Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 - This model can clip onto a laptop or LCD monitor.
- Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF - This model is on a desktop stand
Both models are HD capable and can support Windows Vista. Please note, these cameras can be purchased at a discount that is currently about 20% lower than the suggested retail price. Contact Greg Roehl at the TDC for the best price.
If you are Mac user, then most likely web cameras are built in with the new models.
There are a number of alternatives to produce videos for course material, depending on your needs. Using the webcam video is only one way. You are strongly advised to consult with the LTC for your video needs.
