iCIT offers a number of storage options for UWW students, faculty, and staff. The options described below reflect a variety of ways to store/retrieve files via the Internet and also to accommodate web publishing.
Student Storage
Storage for All Staff
Faculty Storage
Student Web Storage
UWW students wishing to utilize web space for document storage or web publishing may do so via http://stustorage.uww.edu. The 200 MB online space is designed to store personal files, web accessible media, and materials for designated academic departments. In essence, students do not need to use portable storage devices like floppy disks, zip disks, or R/W CDs, as the online student storage space is accessible anywhere with an Internet connection.
Stustorage accounts are created by self request through https://dfsman.uww.edu/Registration/.
Netstorage
Staff office machines have access to both personal and shared storage spaces on the Novell network. Faculty and staff are encouraged to use network space for storing important projects and documents as the drives are backed up on a regular basis.
Drive letters and their functions include:
G: = 200 MB personal storage area that can serve as an extension of your local hard drive. This is your personal directory and cannot be accessed by others.
H: = The divisional/college shared drive. Each college or division has access to a separate H: volume.
L: = PeopleSoft documentation storage space, accessible to limited users.
T: = Shared folders are set up upon special request for a limited group of users to maintain and modify.
Novell network drives are accessible on or off-campus by logging into NetStorage: http://netstorage.uww.edu/ (Using your Net-ID and password). Thus, by saving files and documents to the G: drive, you may access them from home by logging into NetStorage and vice versa.
FACSTAFF Web Account
UWW faculty/teaching staff may utilize a FACSTAFF Web Account to publish personal and/or course websites for instructional purposes. This account and the ROAD FTP Account share a combined 200 MB storage area. Webpages published on this account are indexed on the campus search engine and open to all Internet search engines. Posted accounts on the facstaff server follow the subsequent naming convention: http://facstaff.uww.edu/username. A few web application environments are supported, however programming efforts will be solely the responsibility of the user.
ROAD FTP Account (Repository of Academic Documents)
ROAD accounts offer faculty/teaching staff a place to store course documents for easy distribution to students. Assignment files, presentations, and other instructional related electronic documents may be stored on a ROAD account for access via the web. This account and the FACSTAFF Web account account share a combined 200 MB storage area. Documents may be uploaded into account using the FTP protocol (such as WSFTP or Fetch), enabling students to read and download documents easily via the web using the following URL: http://road.uww.edu/username . Please note that ROAD accounts are not password protected, thus the files are accessible to all students for viewing/downloading. Files on this server are not indexed on the campus search engine, nor are they searchable on Internet search engines.
STORI FTP Account (Storage for Instruction)
The STORI service addresses special instructional needs that a regular ROAD account cannot deliver. STORI accounts accommodate special large disk space needs on a temporary basis (one or two semesters). The space is ideal for storing video clips or other large documents for special projects. Accounts may be password protected to provide limited access to students or other users. As with ROAD accounts, documents may be uploaded into the STORI account using the FTP protocol (such as WSFTP or Fetch). However, students will need to authenticate via their campus email username/password to gain access. STORI accounts may be requested through the Learning Technology Center (email to facstaff@uww.edu ). Accounts are created after an assessment is made of special needs (in terms of space, duration, and the extent of restricted access).
Class Storage (Storage for Instruction)
Class Storage can be setup by request of a faculty member for their class. This storage is a "work space" for students in a particular course to save files and documents related to the class. The faculty will have full read and write access to these files in order to monitor or grade the work being done. Additionally, students may be given access to view other students' files in this work space for the purpose of collaboration or peer evaluation. Contact the Learning Technology Center at ltc@uww.edu to request setup for class storage
