Description:

Microsoft Windows is a desktop operating system that acts as a host for application programs that are run in the Windows environment.

Campus Availability:

UWW has a Windows Upgrade site license, meaning the current version of Windows used on campus can be installed on any computer that was purchased with a qualifying operating system (such as a previous/different version of Windows).

Windows XP Professional is the installed operating system on PCs in Faculty/Staff Offices.

There are no plans to upgrade to Windows Vista. Planning for Windows 7 implementation will begin sometime after the official release date.

Lab Availability:

Windows XP Professional is the installed operating system on PCs in campus labs.

Home Use:

Microsoft Windows is available for discounted personal purchase through the Wisconsin Integrated Software Catalog (WISC) at http://wiscsoftware.wisc.edu/wisc/. Software purchased through Personal Sales on WISC does not need to be uninstalled once UWW employment ends.
