Campus Computer Lab and Classroom Summer Plans

We are in the process of planning our software/hardware update project for the Summer and Fall 2008 semester for all computer labs and classrooms on campus. Most of the updates and testing will be done during the summer months when the labs are more available. We need your input on any special request for additional software that you plan to make available in the labs for the Fall 2008 semester.

To assist you with the planning, below is what we plan on upgrading:

  1. SCHEDULE: The schedule for computer lab/classroom image refresh will occur between July 15th – August 31st as we prepare for the Fall 2008 semester. During this time the labs may be unavailable.
  2. EVENTS: If there are any events, camps or special programs that will be occurring during this timeframe in your specific labs please email me the dates that are scheduled so we can work around them.
  3. ORDERS: Computer lab orders for replacement equipment is currently being finalized. Once we receive the equipment we will work on swapping it out during the timeframe listed above.
  4. NEW Fall 2008 Semester: The General Access Computer Labs (Andersen and McGraw) and the Library will include all software that is currently available in all labs on campus which includes all specialized departmental software.
  5. REMOVED: iCIT Lab & Classroom Support will no longer be supporting Microsoft Office 2003 on May 21 at the end of the business day. We will be removing Microsoft Office 2003 throughout the summer as Lab & Classroom Support does its summer re-imaging of all lab and classroom computers on campus per the schedule above. Office 2007 will be the only suite available after summer. If you or your faculty have any issues with this, please let me know ASAP.
  6. DELETED: iCIT Lab & Classroom Support will be reimaging all classroom computers during Summer Break starting August 16th. During this time any documents or resources that are currently in your “Instructor Storage” on the classroom computer will be deleted. We recommend that you backup any files or resource you plan on keeping before this date by moving it to a flash drive or NetStorage.

We would like to know your software plans by May 23rd. This will allow us to get clarifications as needed and do proper planning. Any requests after the date will be considered but we cannot guarantee that they will be implemented for beginning of Fall semester.

Email me (villanub@uww.edu) with any questions, comments or concerns you might have.

Thanks for your assistance.
