FACEBOOK PRIVACY - OVERVIEW: Educause (an leading non-profit organization that promotes the use of technology on US campuses) estimates, that over 90% of college students in the US have active Facebook profiles. Increasingly, many college instructors and staff members are also using Facebook, to communicate with students about their courses, or to distribute information about their programs and academic departments. The importance of Facebook in academic setting is likely to increase in the future, as is the popularity of other social media: Twitter, Flickr, or LinkedIn.

Posted below is a brief overview of Facebook-related terms, and features it offers, for those who haven't used Facebook before. We hope that a clear understanding of many useful Facebook features, as well as of its limitations and risks that accompany careless use will allow all members of UW-Whitewater campus community, and other web visitors, to make the most of this valuable communication tool.
