iCIT offers software training, documentation, and other resources for UW-Whitewater faculty and staff, with a focus on software used in administrative offices throughout campus, including Windows XP and Windows 7 programs (Microsoft Office 2007, and 2010, Adobe Acrobat 9, and X Pro), Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Lion applications (Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac), as well as various specialized web-based services: WebEx (UW-Whitewater virtual/web meeting solution); Google Docs (file storage, sharing, and collaborative editing for students and campus community); and an introduction to social media (Twitter and Facebook) for campus offices.
Information, training, and support for technologies used for instructional purposes on campus (for example, D2L, or Clickers), is available from the Learning Technology Center (LTC).
For faculty and staff members who like to learn new software skills through hands-on experience and immediate feedback, hands-on workshops might be the perfect solution. These small-group workshops (with 4-5 participants) take 1-1.5 hour, depending on the topic, and are conducted at iCIT's new Training Center, in McGraw Hall, rm.112 (see more info. and access map), by experienced instructors. The atmosphere tends to be relaxed and informal, making these workshops an ideal environment for getting to know, and trying out new software, or for exploring the best solutions that address specific individual and departmental needs. Live workshops often focus on introductory-level skills, and cover the current versions of popular software used on campus, including Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows, Adobe Acrobat X, and WebEx.
AVAILABILITY: Hands-on workshops are free and open to UW-Whitewater faculty and staff (not open to students at this time). Because seating is limited, advance registration is required. Hands on workshops are usually scheduled in the first half of the fall semester and the second half of the spring semester. Additional sessions are added, depending on demand.
