Global Café Series

What?
A monthly informal gathering of students, faculty and staff that promotes cross-cultural awareness through the exchange of ideas and experiences. Presentations will be given by international and study abroad students. If you're interested in global topics and learning about other cultures, then the Global Café is a great way to meet people who also have international interests!

February 16th: Mexico and Italy
March 9th: Ireland
April 20th: England
May 4th: Czech Republic and Slovakia

Presentations

If students are interested in presenting for a Global Café Series event, please read through the following list of requirements.

  • Student Participation
    • The Center for Global Education would like one international student and one study abroad student to present each month.
  • Presentations should be fun and informal in nature, but provide students/staff who attend a general background on their international topic.
    • Student Presenters should be:
      • International Students
      • Academic Year, Semester or Summer Study Abroad Students
      • Travel Study Students
  • Presentations should be around 15 - 20 minutes.
    • Students will need a powerpoint with photos.
    • Students should allow 5-10 minutes for questions and answers.
    • Topics could vary drastically but must contain an international experience component. Students may focus on something specific, like sports or food in their home or host country, or do a general presentation about life in their home country.
  • To sign up:
    • International students should contact Jessica Harmatys.
    • Study Abroad students should contact Kevin Spears.
    • Every student who wishes to present may not be able to present due to space and time considerations.
    • The Center for Global Education will review the topics and try to place similar topics together.
    • Students may have co-presenters if they wish.
