Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Submit the UW System online application at
  2. Submit application fee. $50 for undergraduate students, and $56 for graduate school.
  3. Students are required to submit scores of one of the following English proficiency examinations:
    • TOEFL: minimum score paper based: 500, computer based: 173+, internet based: 61
    • IELTS: minimum score of 5.5, or
    • Ask if you are eligible apply for a English waiver.
  4. Submit an official copy of high school transcripts or GED score.
  5. Students must certify that satisfactory financial resources are available to cover educational costs and submit the Certification of Finances form.
  6. Submit a copy of their passport personal information page.

We recommend international students to pay it online through the application site.

Letters of recommendation are not required, but can be submitted.

UW-Whitewater has rolling admission with a deadline of May 1st for Fall semester, November 1st for Spring semester (the following year).

We are able to offer conditional admission to applicants who meet our academic and financial requirements and applying to our English Language Academy (ELA).  Or students are enrolled at one of the following English language schools located in Madison, Wisconsin: Wisconsin English as a Second Language Institute (WESLI), and Madison English as a Second Language School (MESLS).

International students/non-US Citizens, with financial need may receive an academic scholarship ranging from $2000 - $6000 USD. The amount is determined by academic record and test scores at time of admission. This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years as long as the student is enrolled full-time and maintains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) above a 2.5/4.0.
