Campus Life

  • Housing and Dining: UW – Whitewater offers several housing and dining options.  You can find information on housing at (https://www.uww.edu/housing) and dining at (https://www.uww.edu/uc/services/hawkcard/meal-plans).
  • Hawkcard: The HawkCard is an essential form of identification for students when they arrive on campus and throughout their study at UW - Whitewater. International and Exchange Students will receive an email with instructions before as part of preparation to study at UW – Whitewater so that the card is ready when they arrive.   • Banking: For students looking to open a US bank account, the following bank is located on campus in the University Center on campus: UW Credit Union (http://www.uwcu.org/).

  • Employment: International and Exchange students are typically allowed to work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session. You can find on-campus jobs at: (https://joinhandshake.com/) Off-campus employment is typically a violation of immigration regulation unless it meets specific regulatory requirements.  An example may be an approved credit bearing internship in the student’s major field of study.
  • Clubs and Organizations: To find out more about UW- Whitewater’s club and organizations and how you can get involved (https://uww.presence.io/)
  • Health and Wellness: UW – Whitewater International and Exchange students have access to University Health and Counseling (https://www.uww.edu/uhcs/) which serves as a clinic available to through student fees.
  • Career Guidance: For guidance on career opportunities, resume, interviewing, and job preparation student use Career Services (https://www.uww.edu/career).
  • Center for Students with Disabilities provides support, accommodation, and guidance for students with both seen and unseen disabilities to support student success (https://www.uww.edu/csd)
  • Tutorial Services provides tutoring for many courses along with study skills, time management, supplemental instruction, and other education support for free to UW – Whitewater students (https://www.uww.edu/tutorial).

The Whitewater Community

  • UW-Whitewater is located in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Outside of the campus, the community of Whitewater has many fun services and activities to offer. https://www.discoverwhitewater.org/
  • Community Space: This space is open to all and shares food, clothing, and other resources with community members. It is also a space to hang out and engage with the Whitewater community. https://communityspacewhitewater.com/
  • Food/Drink: Many local businesses provide unique offerings for food and drink; Sweet Spot Café, Cat Café, TeaLux (Boba Tea), Fanatico, La Piazza, and more! Whitewater also has a Movie Theater that shows popular movies.- https://www.whitewaterchamber.com/
  • Activities: Whitewater is surrounded by many hiking trails and nature sceneries such as the Ice Age trail.  https://www.iceagetrail.org/

Transportation and Travel

  • Warhawk Shuttle:  A great option for free transportation to /from Janesville, WI, while classes are in session (https://www.uww.edu/adminaffairs/fpm/shuttle).  From Janesville you students take the bus to Chicago Airports and train station among other places.
  • Bike Share Program: ISSS partners with the UW – Whitewater Sustainability Department to provide bikes to students during the warm seasons!

Health Insurance and Tax Information

  • UW – System requires all international and exchange students to have affordable care act compliant health insurance. UW – Whitewater enrolls international and exchange students in the policy each semester and the fees are on the student’s bill.   • International and Exchange students are required to submit tax materials for the period they study in the United States:
    • VITA: UW – Whitewater’s accounting department offers a free service that assists in tax preparation called VITA https://www.uww.edu/cobe/vita
