NetherlandsSUMMARY
This exchange is for Business students. UW-W students attending HEAO-Arnhem select courses from a variety of Business subjects.  Students may attend for one semester, after which they may opt to do a 21-week full-time internship supervised by Arnhem Business School.  The primary language of instruction for this program is English.

ELIGIBILITY
Students must:

  • have junior standing.
  • have a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application
  • be a Business major or minor.  Marketing majors are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • have a clean disciplinary record.
  • be back on the UW-Whitewater campus for at least one final semester prior to graduation. 

APPLICATION, DATES AND DEADLINES
The application process consists of two steps:  an application to UW-W for approval to study abroad followed by an application to the host institution abroad.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education or online.  Early admittance is not possible for this program. 

Fall semester abroad: mid-August – early January.  UW-W application deadline is March 15.
Spring semester abroad: mid-January - early June.  UW-W application deadline is October 15.

APPROXIMATE COST
Students pay UW-Whitewater tuition while studying abroad through this program. The following is a basic budget that can be used as a guide.  Personal spending habits and exchange rate fluctuations can affect estimated totals.  Current currency exchange rate information can be found at www.oanda.com

ACCOMMODATIONS
Housing arrangements are coordinated through the host institution through Vivare Housing.

CISI INSURANCE
All students participating in any Wisconsin international education program are required by the State of Wisconsin to purchase international insurance from Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI).  CISI insurance costs $37 per 30-day period.  CISI insurance charges will be billed to the student’s UW-W online student account.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS
Students will need a passport to study in the Netherlands.  Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the end of your program.  The passport fee is approximately $100. Obtaining a passport can take two to three months. Passport applications are available in the Center for Global Education.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Americans staying in the Netherlands for more than two weeks must register with local authorities as aliens within three days of arriving in the Netherlands.  Students staying in the Netherlands for more than three months will need to obtain Dutch residence permits.  To do this, the following documents are required:
1) A financial statement showing sufficient funds to stay in the Netherlands for the intended period (A bank statement, scholarship letter or loan agreement will do).

3) A copy of your passport.
4) Proof of health and liability insurance.
5) All other required documents will be provided by the host institution in the Netherlands.  There is a fee of  433 Euros (approximately $520)  for obtaining a Dutch residence permit.  For more information on this permit, visit: http://www.netherlands-embassy.org/article.asp?articleref=AR00000409EN 

FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS
Qualified students may apply for a Wisconsin Study Abroad Grant (need-based) of up to $2000.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education. To discuss having your financial aid applied to study abroad, schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office at 262.472.1130.  All students are also encouraged to apply for college-specific scholarships. The Center for Global Education has additional information on grants and scholarships for study abroad.
