Deakin University, in the beautiful Australian state of Victoria, has campuses in the cities of Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool.  Deakin is an excellent institution with world-class laboratories, computers, production facilities and performance venues.  Deakin offers a full range of courses for UWW students in many academic disciplines.  This is a direct enrollment study abroad program.  For more information about Deakin, visit: www.deakin.edu.au

ELIGIBILITY
Students must: (1) have the support of the chair of their department; (2) have sophomore standing; (3) have a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application; and (4) be back on the UW-Whitewater campus for at least one final semester prior to graduation.

APPLICATIONS, DATES AND DEADLINES 
The application process consists of two steps: an application to UW-W for approval to study abroad followed by an application to the host institution abroad.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education.  Early admittance is not possible for this program.  Students will be notified by the Center for Global Education as to whether they have been approved for study abroad.

 

Academic year abroad:  February-November. UW-W application deadline is October 1.

Fall semester abroad:  July-November.  UW-W application deadline is March 1.
Spring semester abroad:
February-June.  UW-W application deadline is October 1.

APPROXIMATE COST 

Fees for study abroad tuition, housing and meals must be paid directly to Deakin University. The following is an approximate budget that can be used as a guide.  Personal spending habits and exchange rate fluctuations can affect estimated totals.  Current currency exchange rate information can be found at www.oanda.com

ACCOMMODATIONS 
Housing arrangements are coordinated through the host institution with the help of the UW-W Center for Global Education. Housing options differ from one campus to another and include both on-campus and off-campus accommodation possibilities. 

WORLD CLASS COVERAGE PLAN 
All students participating in UW-System international education programs are required to purchase the World Class Coverage Plan from Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI).  The CISI plan costs $31 per 30-day period and must be paid in full to the Office of International Education and Programs before the student leaves the U.S. 

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS
Students will need a passport to study in Australia.  The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the end of your program.  The passport fee is approximately $100. Obtaining a passport can take up to six weeks.  Passport applications are available in the Center for Global Education. Passport fees are not included in the cost of this program.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
You will need a student visa to study in Australia. Visas cannot be issued until a formal acceptance letter from Deakin University has been received.  Australian visas cost approximately $325.  The visa takes about one month to obtain.  For more information on Australian visas, see this page

FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS 
Qualified students may apply for a Wisconsin Study Abroad Grant (need-based) of up to $2,000.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education. To discuss having your financial aid applied to study abroad, schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office at 262.472.1130.   All students are also encouraged to apply for college-specific scholarships. The Center for Global Education has additional information on grants and scholarships for study abroad.
