SUMMARY
This exchange is for Journalism students.  Dublin City University began offering a B.A. in Journalism in 1996  and allows students to take courses in Print and Broadcast Journalism. Whitewater students may study at DCU for one semester only.

ELIGIBILITY
Students must:

  • have sophomore standing
  • have a 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • be a Journalism major or minor
  • have a clean disciplinary record
  • be back on the UW-Whitewater campus for at least one final semester prior to graduation. 

APPLICATIONS, DATES AND DEADLINES
The application process consists of two steps:  an application to UW-W for approval to study abroad followed by an application to the host institution abroad. Applications are available from the Center for Global Education.  Early admittance is not possible for this program. 

Fall semester abroad:  late September – late January.UW-W application deadline is March 15.
Spring semester abroad:  early February – late May. UW-W application deadline is October 15.

Students pay UW-Whitewater tuition while studying abroad through this program. The following is an approximate budget that can be used as a guide. ACCOMODATIONS
Housing arrangements are coordinated through the host institution. Housing options include: limited on-campus residence halls or off-campus apartments. The off-campus housing market in Dublin is tight, so students should plan to arrange housing prior to departure.  DCU recommends arranging off-campus housing at Shanowen Square, which is right next to campus, but often fills early.   

CISI INSURANCE
All students participating in any Wisconsin international education program are required by the State of Wisconsin to purchase international insurance from CISI (CISI).  CISI insurance costs $37 per 30-day period.  CISI insurance charges will be billed to the student’s UW-W online student account.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS
Students will need a passport to study in Ireland.  Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the end of your program.  The passport fee is approximately $100. Obtaining a passport can take two to three months. Passport applications are available in the Center for Global Education.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Students studying for more than three months (90 days) at Dublin City University must obtain residence permission from the Department of Justice within a few days of arrival in Dublin. The following documents are required:  1) a completed Aliens Registration Form (available from local police offices)  2) a valid passport  3) four passport photographs  4) evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of stay (e.g. statement of earnings, bank statement, credit cards, ATM cards, traveler’s checks etc.) 5) proof of overseas insurance. FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS
Qualified students may apply for a Wisconsin Study Abroad Grant (need-based) of up to $2000.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education. To discuss having your financial aid applied to study abroad, schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office at 262.472.1130.  All students are also encouraged to apply for college-specific scholarships.
