This direct enrollment program is open to all majors, but only a selection of Middlesex courses are available for study abroad students, not the full curriculum. As a direct enrollment program, students will pay the Middlesex (MDX) program cost, but at a reduced rate because UW-W is a “Link Institution” with Middlesex.

Middlesex will also be launching a new module titled “London Business Internship.” The module offers a variety of internships in a number of industries in London.

ELIGIBILITY
Students must: (1) have sophomore standing; (2) have a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application; (3) have a clean disciplinary record; and (4) be back on the UW-Whitewater campus for at least one final semester prior to graduation.

APPLICATIONS, DATES AND DEADLINES
The application process consists of two steps: an application to UW-W for approval to study abroad followed by an application to the host institution abroad.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education or online.  Early admittance is not possible for this program.

Academic year abroad:  February-November. UW-W application deadline is October 15.
Fall semester abroad:  July-November.UW-W application deadline is March 15.
Spring semester abroad: February-June.  UW-W application deadline is October 15.

APPROXIMATE COST
Each term, Middlesex will bill their program fee to UW-W, who will then bill the student’s Whitewater student account. Additional fees for study abroad housing and meals must be paid directly to Middlesex. The following is an approximate budget that can be used as a guide.  Personal spending habits and exchange rate fluctuations can affect estimated totals.  Current currency exchange rate information can be found at www.oanda.com
UW-W cannot be held responsible for program cost increases due to variations in world exchange rates!

ACCOMMODATIONS
Housing arrangements are coordinated through the host institution. Housing options differ from one campus to another and include both on-campus and off-campus accommodation possibilities.

CISI INSURANCE
All students participating in any Wisconsin international education program are required by the State of Wisconsin to purchase international insurance from Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI).  CISI insurance costs $37 per 30-day period.  CISI insurance charges will be billed to the student’s UW-W online student account.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS
Students will need a passport to study in the United Kingdom.  Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the end of the program.  The passport fee is about $100. Obtaining a passport can take two to three months.  Passport applications are available online at www.state.gov  or in the Center for Global Education.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Students studying for more than tree months (90 days) in the UK must obtain either a Student Visitor Visa or an Adult Student Visa in order to be eligible to live in the UK as a student.  The Student Visitor Visa can be obtained upon entry to the UK and the Adult Student Visa must be obtained before departure.  For more information on getting a the visa requirements, visit: www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa

FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS
Qualified students may apply for a Wisconsin Study Abroad Grant (need-based) of up to $1,500.  Applications are available from the Center for Global Education. To discuss having your financial aid applied to study abroad, schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office at 262.472.1130.   All students are also encouraged to apply for college-specific scholarships.
