UW Whitewater selected for IFSA Foundation Grant for Study Abroad Scholarships.

Out of 80 applications, 11 institutions were selected for IFSA Foundation awards and UW Whitewater is the only Wisconsin campus that was selected for this grant.

The grant is for $100,000 for study abroad scholarships over a 2-year period!

Beginning in academic year 2009-10, UW Whitewater will receive $50,000 each academic year that will be awarded based on the requirements of the grant.

The UW Whitewater grant focuses exclusively on facilitating study abroad for a semester or academic year for "under-represented populations". Within the field of education abroad, "under-represented" means: young men, GLBTQA students, first generation students, and students of colour. Our grant also will include some scholarships for students who study abroad via UW Whitewater exchange opportunities.

According to the IFSA webpage, “the IFSA Foundation was established in the State of Indiana in June of 2004 and is a federally tax exempt institution under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The IFSA Foundation was created to concentrate on projects that will provide much needed strength to undergraduate study abroad in the United States: scholarships to extend opportunities particularly among underrepresented groups; start-up funding for underdeveloped areas of semester and full year study abroad programs; and support for the development of innovative projects designed to broaden the scope of the undergraduate study abroad experience.

Application Deadline is April 20th!
