The Jefferson County Literacy Council, Inc. (JCLC) is an organization that provides literacy services that empower adult learners to be successful in the community, particularly in the areas of employment, civic duties, and children's education. The Reducing Recidivism Coalition is a cross-agency coalition (with JCLC representation) whose purpose is to support educational programming, social services, and job training programs in the Jefferson County Jail and to help develop supplemental programs and services to reduce the rate of re-offense and re-incarceration.
ABBREVIATED Job/Project Description
The JCLC, in conjunction with the Reducing Recidivism Coalition, is seeking an intern to serve as a research assistant for the Incarcerated Adults Re-Entry Program. The purpose of this internship is to assist the Coalition on re-entry programming for adults while incarcerated in the Jefferson County Jail and upon their release into the county.
Fall through Spring Semester - Part-Time
Start Date - September 22, 2008
PAID - $10.00/hour
Qualifications
- Ability to work in a group process.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Basic or greater understanding of research practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Understanding or educational background in social work, research, or criminal justice helpful.
- Resident of Jefferson County preferred, but not required.
- Availability for two semesters (Fall 2008 & Spring 2009) preferred, but not required.
