This program pairs college student volunteers with elementary students for one-on-one interaction in the classroom on a weekly or semiweekly basis. This is a good opportunity for education majors or anyone interested in working with children. The student coordinator for this program is responsible for volunteer recruitment and training, and coordinating the program with teachers and administrators of local elementary schools.
America Reads is a federally funded program that sends college students, either volunteers or those with work-study aid, into elementary classrooms to work one-on-one with students who may need additional help with reading. These volunteers tutor in participating school districts during the day and in after school reading programs within a fifty-mile radius of Whitewater.
