FTE refers to Full-Time Equivalent - a measurement equal to one student enrolled full-time for one academic year. The FTE of student enrollment at the university is the sum of full-time enrollment plus the calculated equivalent of the part-time enrollment.
A common definition of FTE enrollment includes all full-time students plus one-third of the total number of part-time students (IPEDS definition), but FTE calculations can also be based on credit hours taken.
The FTE Enrollment report uses the UW System definition of FTE, which calculates FTE as the sum of credits divided by 15, 12, or 7, depending on the student's program level (undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral). FTE enrollment should correspond with but never exceed enrollment headcount.
