UW-Whitewater offers trips to Jamaica and Europe

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater College of Education is offering a tour of Jamaica and a tour of Europe for students and educators. The Jamaica trip runs from Jan. 12-17, 2003, and the European tour dates are July 3-20, 2003.

The Jamaica trip is co-sponsored by UW-Whitewater and Northern Caribbean University. Northern Caribbean University will host an International Literacy Conference, Jan. 13-16, 2003, located in Mandeville, Jamaica. The conference is open to anyone interested in literacy development. There will be speakers from the Caribbean, Canada and the U.S, and visits to Jamaican primary and secondary schools are planned. Registration fees must be submitted by Nov. 1, 2002.

The European trip features a tour of six countries: Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary. The trip includes a stop in Tallinn, Estonia, the site of the 13th European Conference on Reading, July 6-9, 2003. University credit is available for those who attend the conference. The tour is roundtrip from Chicago. Applications and deadlines for both tours can be found on the College of Education Web site under “Special Programs.”
