Basketball season kicks off with Midnight Madness on Oct. 22

October 20, 2009

Come have fun and show support for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater basketball teams at Midnight Madness, Thursday, Oct. 22.

Midnight Madness will have a variety of events, including contests, give-a-ways and a slam-dunk showcase by the Milwaukee Bucks Rim Rocker Dunk Team. The doors will open at 8:30 p.m. and activities begin at 9 p.m. in the Kachel Gymnasium in the Williams Center.

"We are really interested in generating student interest in our basketball programs," said Paul Plinske, UW-Whitewater's director of intercollegiate athletics. "Our students can make a huge difference for us. We need them loud and proud for our national caliber programs."

Last season, the men's team was barely edged out in the NCAA regional final to finish with a 23-6 record and the women's team made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament before being knocked out, finishing with a 23-4 record.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the event in partnership with UW-Whitewater's Intercollegiate Athletic Department. UW-Whitewater students and community members should attend the event to have fun, learn about the university basketball teams and get excited for the upcoming season.

Admission is $1 for students with a valid ID, $2 without a student ID and free for children 12 and under.

For more information on the event, contact Paul Plinske at plinskep@uww.edu or 262-472-4661.
