Finalists named in search for new provost at UW-Whitewater

Four finalists have been named in the search for a new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The finalists will be on campus for interviews beginning Wednesday, Nov. 4. Members of the campus community are encouraged to attend the open campus interviews. The finalists are:
- Martin Tadlock – Tadlock has been the assistant vice chancellor of lifelong learning and community engagement at UW-Oshkosh since 2007, and holds an appointment as professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Previously, he served as dean of the College of Professional Studies and dean of the School of Graduate Studies at California State University-Monterey Bay from 2006-07, and served in a similar role at Bemidji State University in Minnesota from 2001-06. Tadlock’s open campus interview will take place Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Summers Auditorium in the James R. Connor University Center.
- Alan Hartman – Hartman is a professor of management and the John McNaughton University Professor at UW-Oshkosh. From 1995 to 2008 he served as the dean of the College of Business. During the 2008-09 academic year, Hartman served as the interim provost and vice chancellor at UW-Oshkosh. Hartman’s open campus interview will take place Thursday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 2 p.m. in room 2203 of Timothy J. Hyland Hall.
- Robert Augustine – Augustine serves as dean of the Graduate School, Research, International Students and Scholars and Study Abroad at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., a position he has held since 2000. While at Eastern Illinois University, he also served as the interim associate vice president for academic affairs for technology. He was named a full professor in 1990 and also served as chair of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences. Augustine’s open campus interview will take place Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Summers Auditorium in the University Center.
- Beverly Kopper – Kopper is the associate provost for academic affairs at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, a position she has held since 2007. She also holds an appointment as a full professor in the Department of Psychology. She has served as director of the Office of Academic Assessment and as a special assistant for academic affairs at the University of Northern Iowa. Kopper’s open campus interview will take place Friday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Summers Auditorium in the University Center.
The Provost Search Committee reviewed 56 applications, screened references on 13 preliminary finalists and interviewed seven semifinalists by telephone before selecting the four finalists.
The Provost position is one of the most significant positions on campus, responsible for the quality of academic programs (majors and minors), hiring and promoting faculty and staff and supporting better teaching and student learning.
